Joan M. Prasse, DVM is a summa cum laude graduate of Marshall University and The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She is the wife of Robert Prasse, II, D.V.M., M.D. Early in their marriage they ran Colonial Animal Clinic, an American Animal Hospital Association accredited hospital in Flatwoods, KY. When Dr. Robert decided to go back to school to “specialize in one species”, that is, humans (He is now “The Country Doctor – –with his office just upstairs!), Dr. Joan became founder and president of Advanced Veterinary Services, PSC, a corporation which owned and operated four veterinary hospitals in Kentucky and Ohio. In 1995, Dr. Prasse sold her veterinary empire and, in 1998, moved with Dr. Robert and their three children to Locust Grove, VA. They established Paradocs Farm, where they raise and train horses. Dr. Prasse has practiced locally for the past 17 years, providing veterinary care for dogs, cats, rabbits, horses, and goats. She has a strong interest in surgery, medicine, canine and equine reproduction, and preventative health care.

Designing and building Paradocs Animal Hospital has been a labor of love, enabling Dr. Prasse to once again be in practice with a family member, her daughter, Dr. Shauna Riggs.
